In 2014 she earned her doctoral degree with a specialty focus in forensic studies at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (now known as William James College) in Boston, Massachusetts. Her doctoral research was on trauma and the specific experience and treatment models for girls within the juvenile justice system.
Dr. Hazel’s work as a forensic evaluator, lies at the intersection of mental health and the legal system for children and families. She has worked within the Massachusetts juvenile justice system (DYS), the Massachusetts child protective services system (DCF), and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) providing consultation, assessment and evaluation services across these populations. She has evaluated children and adults across the lifespan (age 4 and up) and across the state of Massachusetts. She has testified and been called to testify as an expert witness in trauma in juvenile and probate court.
