Dr. Abasi-odu Etim-Taiwo, LCSW, PsyD
Postdoctoral Associate
Dr. Etim-Taiwo ("Dr. E-T") is a Post-Doctoral Associate in Clinical Psychology at Hazel Approach Psychological Services. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in Forensic Psychology, from William James College. Dr. E-T conducts comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological, forensic, and psychoeducational evaluations across the lifespan, with clinical interests in diagnostic clarification, neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma, and complex clinical presentations.
Dr. E-T has trained in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, schools, community mental health programs, and correctional settings, including jails and prisons. These diverse experiences have provided her with a broad understanding of the many biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors that influence mental health and psychological functioning across different populations and systems of care.
She is passionate about helping individuals and families gain a deeper understanding of themselves through compassionate, evidence-based assessment. Dr. E-T believes that the purpose of a psychological evaluation is not simply to assign a diagnosis, but to understand the whole person within the context of their developmental, cultural, medical, and life experiences. She recognizes that a diagnosis is only one part of an individual's story and strives to provide evaluations that identify both strengths and areas of need while offering meaningful, practical recommendations. Her goal is to translate complex assessment findings into information that empowers clients, families, schools, attorneys, and treatment providers to make informed decisions and develop effective paths forward.
As someone who deeply values culture in her own life, Dr. E-T is committed to providing culturally responsive, person-centered care. She recognizes the importance of understanding each individual's cultural background, identity, values, and lived experiences, and works to ensure these factors are thoughtfully considered throughout every stage of the evaluation process. As part of her clinical work, Dr. E-T has experience conducting forensic evaluations and collaborating with attorneys, schools, medical providers, and multidisciplinary teams. She has presented on the role of psychological evaluations in legal advocacy and enjoys partnering with attorneys, schools, and community organizations to provide educational trainings that increase understanding of psychological assessment and promote the thoughtful application of psychological science in real-world settings.
Dr. E-T also enjoys mentoring future clinicians and is committed to supporting the development of the next generation of psychologists through supervision, teaching, and collaborative learning opportunities.
